Justina Thompson sentenced to 120 days of jail for car burglaries

Justina E. Thompson, 21, of Leavenworth, KS, was sentenced today on three counts of vehicular Burglary, severity level 9 non-person felonies. The Court sentenced her to probation for 12 months with an underlying sentence of 17 months in Kansas Department of Corrections custody. Ms. Thompson was also ordered to serve 120 days of shock time unless an appropriate drug treatment plan is put into place.  The sentencing guidelines allow for a reduction of sentence on convictions if the burglaries are thought to be related to drug abuse.  The defense argued for a reduction of sentence due to Ms. Thompson's drug dependency.

On August 16, 2016, Ms. Thompson knowingly entered into a vehicle in Leavenworth County and took multiple items without permission.  The owner of the vehicle witnessed the crime and contacted police who responded to the incident.  Ms. Thompson was found to be in possession of items that she had removed from the vehicle.

On October 29, 2016, Ms. Thompson knowingly entered into two vehicles in Leavenworth.  Officers responded to the area and witnessed Ms. Thompson nearby carrying items that she had removed from each vehicle.
