Shanenon D. Kagen, 32, was sentenced to two years in Leavenworth County District Court for the charge of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer.

The charge stemmed from a June 3, 2015, incident in a parking lot of the Justice Center in Leavenworth. The Justice Center houses the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office as well as the courtrooms for Leavenworth County District Court.

Kagen assaulted Leavenworth County Undersheriff Jim Sherley while racing away from the parking lot in his vehicle, according to testimony from a preliminary hearing.

The standard prison sentence in his case would have been three years and three months under the state's sentencing guidelines. But the prosecution agreed to recommend a two-year sentence as part of a plea agreement.
